The Midlands has produced a whole host of first-rate comedy talent over the years, many of whom you might not even know were either born here or spent their formative years in the middle of this green and pleasant land.

This November and December, MAC is partnering with the BFI for a season of screen work designed to remind audiences just how many Midlands comedy greats there are.

See Edgbaston-born Julie Walters’ star turn in Educating Rita, witness the Warwickshire-raised Eric Idle prat about in Monty Python & The Holy Grail, see Solihull’s own Lucy Davis fight zombies in Shaun Of The Dead and hear Alice Lowe talk about how a childhood in Coventry inspired her work as a serial killer in Sightseers. Local comedians like Jo Enright, Ian Boldsworth and Luisa Omielan will also be introducing films that inspired their own work.

So come and join us for a month of Comedy Genius sure to split some sides* and maybe even raise a few roofs!

(*MAC cannot be held responsible for any medical treatment needed as a result of actual split sides.)

Comedy Genius is a celebration of comedy on screen, led by BFI, the Independent Cinema Office and BFI Film Audience network, supported by funds from the National Lottery.
