About Introduction to Studio Recording (Spring)

Dive deep into the art of studio recording in this comprehensive 6-week course designed for aspiring musicians and audio enthusiasts. Guided by both an experienced recording engineer – Hersh Thakur and music producer – Ivo Hristov, participants will embark on a journey to explore the intricacies of studio recording and music production, from understanding different recording gear to learning about music production.

What will you learn on this course?

This course is perfect for people looking to get more hands-on with their music and learn how to record in a genuine studio environment, working with industry-standard software and recording gear. By the end of the course, you will gain a better understanding of how to record analogue sounds into Logic Pro X or any other DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) using a mixing desk and how to digitally manipulate them.

You will work with the latest iMacs and learn Logic Pro X software.

The course covers:

  • Introduction to Logic Pro X and standard studio equipment
  • A thorough explanation of audio effects
  • Using microphones and other recording equipment
  • Recording sound into Logic Pro X
  • Working with a mixing desk and outboard audio processing gear
  • Manipulating the recorded sound
  • Music editing and mixing
  • Learning how to automate
  • Different recording techniques
  • Recording different acoustic instruments
  • Working with both analogue and digital signals.

Each week the tutor will set tasks and small projects designed to incorporate the new skills that you have learned, such as setting up a recording studio for a full-band recording from scratch, mixing different songs, and challenging studio routing puzzles.

Participants will leave understanding how music is created, assembled, and recorded and have a wider appreciation of specialist music software.

As well as 1-2-1 support, at the end of each lesson you will listen to everyone’s work and share feedback and comments.

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for adults aged 18+ years. If you are aged 16+ you may be able to enrol on the course if you have a guardian or parent with you. Please contact us to discuss your particular needs.

This course is designed for both beginners and improvers, those who would like an introduction to digital music making and to those looking to improve their skills. You don’t need any previous experience or musical knowledge as full instruction and guidance is given.

The course is accessible for people with disabilities who are able to use a computer. The room is wheelchair accessible and a carer or support worker may assist. Carers must book a complimentary ticket if attending a course to provide support. Please contact us to discuss your specific needs.
