Andrea Clarke biography
Andrea Clarke is a visual artist working in the mediums of ceramics, mixed media, photography, and film. Working from her home studio in Birmingham, her work centres around our interconnectedness of surrounding atmospheres, environment and flux arising from living out moments in nature. Her creative approach is expressionistic, spontaneous and visceral, working in an intuitive, gestural manner with clay to produce fine art ceramics. She has graduated with a First-Class Honour’s Degree in Glass and Ceramics at the University of Wolverhampton.
Andrea works with contrasting materials from dark, heavily grogged clay bodies to porcelain. She experiments with organic additions, manipulates slip saturated fabric and builds surface through multiple firings to produce dynamic surfaces.
In her roles of art technician and tutor, she has supported students from diverse backgrounds and abilities, in secondary and further education from NCFE Level 1 arts and crafts to A Level. She has gained a diverse range of skills, including techniques in ceramic processes, surface decoration, darkroom processes, textiles and fashion construction which feed into her individual artistic practice.
She has exhibited a series of seascape photographs at the Reclaim Photography Festival, has work exhibited via public sculpture and sells work through galleries.
