Jaivant Patel biography
Jaivant Patel is an independent dance artist, cultural producer, choreographer and arts consultant based in Wolverhampton. He graduated from The Northern School of Contemporary Dance in 2004 with a BPA (Hons) Contemporary Dance and has worked with choreographers such as Sharon Watson, Laurent Cavanna, Jeremy Nelson, Bisakha Sarker, Tanusree Shankar, Shobana Jeyasingh and Nahid Siddiqui.
Jaivant is the artistic director of Jaivant Patel Dance (JPD), which exists to communicate his British-Asian identity, voice his experiences and challenge complexities of inherited notions, perceptions and stereotypes.
In 2015 he was selected for Dance UK's Dancers Mentoring and Choreographers' Observerships Programmes, followed by Birmingham’s pilot cultural leadership programme ‘Re:Present’ in 2016.
He is an independent Artistic and Quality Assessor for Arts Council England.
Jaivant also runs a voluntary organisation called Jai Jashn Dance (JJD). Influenced by Indian dance heritage, JJD delivers Bollywood-based community dance classes. The success and popularity of these classes have seen a youth performance group being formed from its members.
