Liz Marchetti biography
Elizabeth Marchetti works with a variety of yarns both natural and synthetic. She is intrigued by the relationship between the yarns as she weaves them. The threads are woven tightly and then loosely to achieve a fluidity in the fabric. She loves to mix very fine yarn with interesting knitted yarns to enhance the sculptural effect. The quality of finish is very important to her as she is creating one-off bespoke pieces.
Liz graduated from WSCAD, Farnham in 1992 with a BA(Hons) in Woven Textiles. She then went on to complete an MA in Fashion/Textiles at BCU (formerly UCE) graduating in 1994. In 1996 she started her own business based in the Jewellery Quarter, producing hand woven bags and accessories. Attending Gift Trade Fairs and Craft Fairs, she gradually built up her business whilst teaching part-time. In 2007, she launched the ‘mini marchetti’ range of bibs and neckerchiefs for babies. In 2011 she began writing and illustrating children’s picture books, using her love of stitch and applique as a way to illustrate the stories.
Liz teaches An Introduction to Dressing a Loom and Basic Weaving Techniques.
