Paula Ligo biography
I’m a visual artist, designer and illustrator currently dedicating myself to mosaics.
My love of art began when I was 12 years old, learning Classical Drawing and Painting in Brazil. I have since achieved a BA Honours in Graphic Design. I then worked for Alto Astral Magazine Publishers as an Illustrator for 5 years. I then moved to England where I achieved a Masters Degree in Sustainable Design from Kingston University in 2011.
While obtaining my Masters Degree I began working for Southbank Mosaics in London where I realised my passion for mosaics, working alongside renowned British and Italian mosaic artists on community projects creating commissioned large scale mosaic artwork for public spaces that can be seen all around central London. One of the most significant projects that I was a part of was the Queenhithe Mosaic.
Most recently I have assisted in transforming Southbank Mosaics into London School of Mosaic which is the only school in the UK to offer a Degree course in mosaic studies and I was employed as Lead Artist Tutor. I worked and taught there for over 8 years. In my role as a lead artist tutor I taught mosaic making skills to people of all ages including those with learning difficulties, physical impairments and even young offenders.
My background in Classical Drawing and Graphic Design have given me strong artistic foundations which are also applied to mosaics, enabling me to better help my students not only with the technical aspects of mosaic making but also the artistic side regarding colour, composition, geometry, drawing and design execution.
