Sian Riley biography
I am a fashion designer and lecturer working in London and the Midlands. After gaining a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear from the London College of Fashion, I then completed a Master’s degree in Fashion Design at Birmingham City University.
I have worked for a large number of fashion designers and brands such as Amanda Wakeley, Bruce Oldfield, Betty Jackson, Designers at Debenhams (J by Jasper Conran, John Rocha and Red Herring), Jenny Packham, Paper London and Dorothy Perkins. I continue to work in the industry and impart this knowledge to numerous students at a variety of universities and colleges as well as developing work for my own brand through independent projects and collaborations.
Over the years, my work has been featured in exhibitions, magazines and blogs including a Digital Artwork Exhibition at Hinckley Library, Frame 15 Photography Exhibition, Advanced Photographers Magazine and on designergeneration20.blogspot.it. I have also won the Smudgeflux/Education Guardian Schools Contemporary Art Competition and was the regional winner of the Can U Cut It Competition.
I really enjoy exploring all areas of Art and Design and I look forward to introducing people to sewing, pattern cutting and the diverse world of fashion.
mac has given me the opportunity to explore areas of fashion and introduce people of all ages and abilities to the art of sewing; from understanding basic techniques and garment construction to more artistic forms of fashion like customisation and upcycling clothes
