Vanessa Miller biography
I'm an independent Jewellery Designer-Maker based in Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter and a Visiting Tutor and Artist in Residence at the School of Jewellery, Birmingham. I graduated from Birmingham's prestigious School of Jewellery (BCU) with Distinction in Jewellery and Silversmithing (HND) in 2016. I am alumni of the Goldsmiths Centre London where I attended ‘Getting Started’ a week long intensive business start-up course. I work with the Crafts Council on the project ‘Make Your Future’ as a maker where I teach electro-etching and jewellery making in Birmingham Secondary Schools.
I set up my business immediately after graduation and sell my work locally, nationally and internationally through exhibitions, events, galleries and online, I also work to commission. My work was selected for exhibition by the British Art Medal Society and Wolverhampton Art Gallery: Craft Open. I design and make unique silver jewellery inspired by nature, the world around me, holidays and carefree, happy childhood memories and design with a smile in mind. I use a variety of techniques such as etching, hand carved and modelled milliput; embellishing silver with pure gold using the ancient Korean technique of Keum Boo and setting and using a variety of semi-precious stones.
