Event Information

With this offbeat metaphysical romance, Michael Powell shows his wonderful knack for capturing landscape - see also Gone to Earth. The title statement (and song) comes from our headstrong heroine Joan (Wendy Hiller), determined to marry a wealthy industrialist until an encounter with the outer Hebrides and naval officer Roger Livesey turns everything upside down. Rich in mythology and symbolism, I Know Where I’m Going! is a counterpoint to the propaganda and stodgy realism of much wartime British cinema. It can be seen here in full effect thanks to a beautiful new 4K restoration from the BFI.

The screening will be preceded by a short film about the filming of Gone to Earth in the Shropshire town of Much Wenlock, produced by Brian Harley and Flatpack Film Festival.

Duration includes trailers and adverts. Please note that we do not admit latecomers after the main feature has started and we have a limited food & drink policy. See more information about Relaxed Screenings here. MAC’s cinema programme has been generously supported by BFI Film Audience Network and Film Hub Midlands.
