Produce your own short stop motion animation with objects and models.

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for young people aged 11-17 years. It is open to beginners and improvers so you don’t need previous animation experience as full instruction is given. If you do have some experience you can explore and learn new techniques to further develop your skills.

The course is accessible for young people of all abilities who can participate in practical art activities and use a computer. We can provide a learning support worker and a carer or support worker may assist if required. Carers must book a complimentary ticket if attending a course to provide support. The room is wheelchair accessible.

Age ranges are set carefully to take into account key age developments, materials being used and course stimulus. It is very important that age ranges are not too large or across key stages and therefore need to be adhered to.

Parents are not expected to accompany children on these courses. All our staff are DBS checked.

What will you learn on this course?

On this short course you will learn the techniques required to create your own stop motion animations. Stop motion or stop frame animation is a technique that uses objects or models that are physically moved in small stages between individually photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames is played as a continuous sequence. Films such as the ‘Wallace & Gromit’ series and ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ use this animation technique.

In exploring both image and clay based animation you will develop your basic technical and creative skills. The course may include any of the following based on the group’s interests:

basic drawing and art skills
3D clay modelling
Stop motion animation techniques
making an animation
voice overs
frame rates

At the end of the course you will have produced a complete short animation demonstrating the skills you have learned.

This is a great course for those interested in trying stop motion animation and gaining an appreciation of the skills and techniques required in this popular art form. All materials and equipment are provided
