Follow the Fun (or how to avoid the tyranny of structure…)
In this workshop, Dylan Emery of Grand Theft Impro will look at how GTI create scenes without structural safety nets – how to make them work, how to find the fun while avoiding spiralling into chaos, how to allow all the players to tap into the full range of their performance skills.
Grand Theft Impro has been running short-form shows for more than 20 years and it attracts high profile guests from all over the world who can drop in pretty much without any prep. We rarely play standard impro games and we don’t have any complex over-arching structures. We typically just start with the name of the scene and nothing else. Someone steps onto the stage and we see what happens next.
A regular comment from our guests is that they find this approach liberating and fun, especially if they are used to more tightly organised shows.
