Using different hand-building techniques and exciting surface decorating methods, make your holiday pottery completely unique.

What will you learn on this course?

This half day course provides an exciting introduction to ceramics. It’s a perfect opportunity for you and your child to learn more about each other's hidden talents and cultivate a shared interest in the medium of clay.

You can choose from a selection of planned clay activities for the session or you can bring your own ideas which can be realised with help from the tutor. Come and develop your ideas in a friendly, creative atmosphere alongside other families.

You will learn different hand-building techniques. The tutor will then support you to explore your own ideas, showing you how to apply these techniques to realise your own designs. You will also have access to specialist tools to add decoration to your work including the application of slips if time permits.

Participants will have a great sense of achievement and will feel proud of what they have accomplished, hopefully making some new friends along the way.

Your finished glazed ceramic creation will be ready to collect from mac two weeks after the workshop to allow time for firing to take place.

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for children aged 6 to 11 years accompanied by their parents or guardians who are looking for an opportunity to enjoy learning together. It is open to students of all levels. Those with little or no experience of pottery will be shown demonstrations for the various techniques used and those with previous experience will be able to self-direct their work with guidance from the tutor.

The course is accessible for people of all abilities however you do need dexterity in your hands to work with clay.  Parents and guardians work with their children and all classes are planned to meet the specific needs of the group. The room is wheelchair accessible.

Age ranges are set carefully to take into account key age developments, materials being used and course stimulus. It is very important that age ranges are not too large or across key stages and therefore need to be adhered to.
