Design and create your own fantastical creature in this creative art workshop designed especially for children. Let your imagination run free devising your creature’s story with lots of inspiring materials and art skills. The course is led by professional artist and creature creator Tom Ellis of Curious Oddities.
What you will learn on this course
On this three-day course children will learn how to create their own fantastical creature, they will learn how to paint and decorate a small creature sculpture, devise a name, make its home, and create its mythological story.
Seamlessly blending story writing with sculpture children have the opportunity to let their imagination run free and learn how to make their art inspired by the fantastical creatures made by Tom.
At the beginning of the session Tom will introduce his work, and what inspires him, he will also bring along his own mini creatures for the children to explore.
The children will gain new skills in how to design and creating 3D art forms, whilst writing a creative story and learn all about creature characterisation. They will have the opportunity to work with lots of exciting art materials and equipment and gain an understanding of creating artwork through different methods such as drawing, painting and sculpture. This is a fun workshop designed to allow free thinking and imagination.
Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for children aged 6 to 11 years. It is open to all ability levels and does not require any previous experience. Parents are not expected to accompany children on these courses. All our staff are DBS checked.
The course is accessible for children of all abilities who can participate in practical art and craft activities. We provide a learning support worker in every session, and additional care can be arranged if necessary. A parent or carer may attend to assist the child if required; carers must book a complimentary ticket if attending a course to provide support. The room is wheelchair accessible.
Age ranges are set carefully to consider key age developments, materials being used and course stimulus. It is very important that age ranges are not too large or across key stages and therefore need to be adhered to.
Do you need to bring anything?
All course material and equipment are provided. Children are welcome to bring their own foraged items, trinkets, or treasures for their creatures.
Children should dress appropriately as some visual art workshops can get a bit messy.
Please note that lunch is not provided. Children will need to bring their own lunch to eat on a supervised one-hour break. If you would like lunch to be included, please book one of our additional childcare options.
