Young learning disabled arts activists lead a conference with a difference. Celebrating their growing impact on the national arts scene, they ask how we can break down the barriers to inclusion that still exist.
Creative Minds Midlands is the fifth regional disability led conference in the UK produced by Brighton-based Carousel with a range of regional partners. The lead partner for Birmingham is Open Theatre Company.
It brings together learning disabled artists and performers and a range of people from the wider arts world to look at quality, leadership, inclusion and collaboration.
A must for anyone involved in the future of the arts in the UK; arts organisations, local authority arts officers, academics, students, funders, arts critics and practitioners.
Creative Minds Midlands is supported by Arts Council England, The Monument Trust and Service Birmingham.
I got a timely reminder that, just as there are as many ways of seeing the world and making art as there are people, there are as many different ways of responding to art. For the sake of the performing arts world in general, I hope the movement continues to gain momentum
