Event Information

Experiment with the magical process of dyeing in this specially devised family textiles course. Learn how to use fabrics and prepare several different dye baths. These techniques will produce natural colours and patterns to create a collection of beautiful fabrics to use for other projects

What will you learn on this course?

On this one-day course, children and parents or guardians will learn all about the magical properties of natural dyeing, one of the most ancient processes that dates back to 6,000 BC.

During the day you will explore and learn several different dyeing processes and produce many lovely samples to take away with you for other projects and a reminder should you wish to continue at home.

You will learn how to work with natural plants and items commonly found in the kitchen cupboard to extract the dye from vegetables, spices, tea, coffee and more. You will explore the subtle patterns from ice dyeing, be amazed at images transferred from rust objects and wonder at the unique colours from natural ingredients. You will also be provided with a t-shirt or bag to decorate during the session, so you can take home a unique finished piece to show off to your friends and family.
