Experiment with the magical process of indigo dyeing in this specially devised family textiles course. Learn how to use indigo dye baths and resist techniques to create beautiful blue patterned fabric.

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for children aged 6 to 11 years accompanied by their parents or guardians who are looking for an opportunity to enjoy learning together. It is open to all levels. The tutor will teach and demonstrate all the necessary skills and techniques.

The course is accessible for people with disabilities as we can provide a learning support worker, children can work with their parent or carer and the room is wheelchair accessible. The techniques involve arm and shoulder work and require some dexterity in the hands.

What will you learn on this course?

On this one-day course, kids and parents will learn all about the magical properties of indigo dyeing, one of the most ancient dyes that dates back to 6,000 BC.

You will learn how to work with indigo dye together, create patterns using resists and make some fabric to take home.

Do you need to bring anything?

All materials and equipment is provided. However, you may wish to bring along your own fabric, lace, handmade paper, a white cotton t-shirt etc. (all clean, white or cream and undyed).

We recommend wearing old clothes and bring aprons with you.

There are no additional costs. The course price includes all materials.
