Learn how to handle lengths of wool, test felting techniques and make a seamless felted bag.

Who is this course for?
This one day course is suitable for adults aged 18+ years open to beginners and improvers. Some previous knowledge of felt making is useful but not essential as you will be guided through the process step by step and full instruction and guidance is given. Those with previous felting experience will be able to develop their skills in creating 3D pieces.

The course may be accessible for people with disabilities although some shoulder and arm work required for rolling the felt. A carer may assist. Carers must book a complimentary ticket if attending a course to provide support. The room is wheelchair accessible. Please contact us to discuss your specific situation and needs.

This course involves working at low tables, includes long periods of standing and requires good manual and upper body dexterity as you will be working with wet materials and rolling wool.

What will you learn on this course?
A day project which involves a group discussion and tutorial at the beginning followed by a demonstration.  Learn how to handle lengths of wool and techniques required to lay it correctly in order to make a seamless felted bag.

Learners will be taken through the felt making process step by step.  They will then go on to produce a felted bag which they will be able to take away and decorate later or work on during the studio time.  This will depend on ability and previous experience.

Learners will gain:
Knowledge of wool and its properties.
Learn about the difference between 3-D and flat felt creations.
Use of colour.
Planning a design.
Shrinkage of felt.
The process of felt making and its historical context.

Then students will follow step by step instructions as well as working on their own when they feel confident to make a seamless felted bag.

Do you need to bring anything?
You may bring in design sources to inspire your design and please wear old clothes to work in.

Are there any additional costs?
