Mon 16 Apr, 8.30pm - 9.30pm | 12 wk Term £98 (£89) | 18+ | Beginners

Enter the passionate, exciting world of traditional Spanish flamenco dancing accompanied by live musicians.

Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for adults (male & female) aged 18+ years. This is a beginners course so you don’t need any previous experience as full instruction and guidance is given. If you have less than one year’s experience of flamenco this class would also be suitable for you.

Flamenco dancing requires flexibility in your hands and shoulders. There is also some impact on leg joints, particularly the knees.

What will you learn on this course?
This course is an introduction to the exciting and passionate traditional Spanish dance flamenco and its many forms. The class will concentrate on the simpler, more light-hearted forms such as tangos, rumbas and fandangos.

You will learn basic techniques such as posture, footwork and turns, hand and arm movements. During the term you will also learn a choreographed routine through demonstration, practice, repetition and correction as necessary. The length and difficulty of the choreography will be tailored to suit the students’ abilities. Every class will be accompanied by live guitarists.

By the end of this course you will have some understanding of flamenco forms ('palos') and rhythmic structures ('compás'). You will have learned sufficient basic techniques, including styling and expression of mood, to perform a complete dance routine with a degree of confidence.

Do you need to bring anything?
All students must wear suitable shoes, a low block heel shoe, not trainers or stiletto-type shoes. If you don’t have a suitable shoe you can purchase a 'character shoe' available from most dance supplies shops or online (c. £20-30). For women a long full skirt is also recommended but not essential.

Are there any additional costs?
There are no additional costs.
