Learn to knit with giant knitting needles with your own yarn made from re-crafted fabrics.

What will you learn on this course?

On this course you will learn how to create fabric yarn using recycled clothing or pieces that hold special memories for you, and how to use that yarn with giant knitting needles to create your giant knit bag.

You will be taught how to knit a basic stitch and learn how to construct your bag. This is a great introduction to knitting for beginners and for those with some experience, it’s an opportunity to experiment with scale, as we will be using giant knitting needles!

This workshop introduces a creative way to re-use fabrics.

If a cacophony of colour is your style you, will be shown techniques to embellish, weave, wind and stitch for an eclectic mix of acid lemon and green pompoms, cerise and red braids and zingy orange cords to decorate your bag. If kitsch isn't your bag, then keep it simple with a monotone palette.

You may consider bringing discarded fabrics or items that hold memories for you - a child's dress or discarded jumper, a favourite pair of trousers that no longer fit. These can be incorporated in your knitting to make your bag unique and full of memories. The bag can be embellished with a selection of pompoms, cords, or handmade rolled beads.

Using a mix of group demonstrations, hand-outs and individual support the tutor will guide you through the process explaining how to prepare the materials and showing you how to knit. You will receive individual support on your designs and how to realise your ideas as required.

By the end of this course you will leave with a finished hand-knitted bag made from re-used fabric yarn.

Who is this course for?

This one-day course is suitable for adults aged 18+ years and is open to beginners and improvers.

You don’t need any previous experience of knitting as full instruction and guidance is given. This is a great opportunity to learn how to knit.
