Join us for the launch of three new exhibitions, presented in partnership with Home of Metal.
Ben Venom: All This Mayhem
Home of Metal: Hand of Doom
Craftspace: Show your Metal
All This Mayhem is a major exhibition of recent work by internationally renowned, San Francisco-based artist Ben Venom, exemplifying traditional quilting and Heavy Metal aesthetics. Venom uses re-purposed materials to create textile-based pieces and has made a new artwork using Metal T-shirts from fans in response to Home of Metal. Ben Venom is in residence in the gallery during the first week of the exhibition.
Hand of Doom is an exhibition of portraits of Black Sabbath fans from across the globe curated from the Home of Metal portrait collection to tell the story of the ubiquitous battle jackets. Visithomeofmetal.com to see the international fans portrait collection in its entirety.
Show your Metal connects metal the material and Metal the music, featuring local jewellers Dauvit Alexander, Daisy Grice and Jordan Herry whose work is inspired by culture and symbols associated with Metal and Rock. It also features a battle jacket with badges from gigs which took place at Birmingham Odeon in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Presented by Craftspace to coincide with Home of Metal.
These exhibitions are part of Home of Metal, a celebration of the music that was born in Birmingham; music that turned up the volume, down-tuned the guitars, and introduced a whole new meaning to the word 'heavy'. Home of Metal is conceived and produced by Capsule.
