Nita and Bonnie run the PTA in their charming village with brutal efficiency. Their enterprising and sometimes shocking approach to fundraising exploits the deep frustrations and struggles of being a mum, with highly lucrative results.
Into this world of competitive parenting drops Jacs, a savvy city type who’s looking to make an impression. But this PTA doesn’t let just anyone in. You have to earn the right to join the committee.
Has Jacs got what it takes to assume her place in the parental pecking order or will the feathers fly?
In The Motherhood is a new play by Hayley Pepler, begun when she was a participant in the REP’s Write Away scheme for emerging playwrights in 2013. Since then, her script for The Shadow of Ingestre Hall has already received a nomination for Best Drama at the Royal Television Society (Midlands) Awards.

“What a great night! This play had me giggling in recognition of the mums’ complaints about motherhood. It was a packed house, mostly full of women who knew What Motherhood Means and guffawed at the in-jokes about PTA stands. A thoroughly enjoyable night out.”
“All the actors have children of their own and with the flawless direction of Tom Saunders, it is a show for everyone. With the help of the cast, Pepler celebrates motherhood and lets mums of all backgrounds know that they have the most challenging job there is, and we are thankful for it.”★★★★
