Learn about the basics of social media and blogging and the benefits they can offer.

Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for adults aged 18+ years. It is open to beginners and improvers, you don’t need any previous experience as full instruction and guidance is given. We will be introducing online platforms and talking through features in detail so the course will be useful for those starting off or those with some existing knowledge looking to use blogs and social media more effectively.

The course is accessible for people with disabilities who are able to use a computer. A carer or support worker may assist learners on this course. Carers must book a complimentary ticket if attending a course to provide support. The room is wheelchair accessible. Please contact us to discuss your specific needs.

You will spend most of this 2 hour class sat at a computer.

What will you learn on this course?
This course will introduce popular social media and blogging platforms. Working in mac’s dedicated media studio, on Apple Mac computers, you will learn how about the pros and cons of each platform, how to link them together, which platforms are right for you and how to use them effectively for business or personal use. You will also be taught about the privacy aspects of these sites for those who want to use them but who are apprehensive about online safety. The course includes topics such as:

  • Using social media such as facebook, twitter and instagram effectively and safely
  • Using blogging platforms such as tumblr and wordpress effectively and safely
  • How to link different platforms and incorporate others such as youtube or flickr
  • How to customise the design and functionality of these platforms

In the first half of the course the tutor will work with the group to teach all the basics. In the second half you will receive more individual support as you work on your personal project.

On completing this course you can expect to have established a blog or social media online presence which is relevant to your needs, be that for business or personal use. You should also be confident to continue to use and experiment with social media and blogging platforms.

There is a short break in the middle of each class.

Do you need to bring anything?
You will need an email address that you are willing to use to sign up to the social media and blogging platforms. You can create a free email address at if you don’t wish to use your current email account.

You are welcome to bring your own mac laptop.
