This is an introduction to art making with electronics. This one day course will look at the basic principals of designing, coding and building digital art projects, working with simple electronics and learning how to create movement, sounds and lights using sensors.
Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for young people aged 6 to 11 years. It is open to all ability levels and children don’t need previous experience. Parents are not expected to accompany their children on these courses. All our staff are DBS checked.
The course may be accessible for children with disabilities who can participate in detail based activities. We provide a learning support worker and a parent or carer may assist their child if required. Carers must book a complimentary ticket if attending a course to provide support. The building is wheelchair accessible. Please contact us to discuss your specific situation and needs.
Age ranges are set carefully to take into account key age developments, materials being used and course stimulus. It is very important that age ranges are not too large or across key stages and therefore need to be adhered to.
What will you learn on this course?
This course will introduce you to working creatively with electronics using microprocessors such as Arduino’s, microbits and raspberry pis and LED’s.
The tutor will introduce a project for the children to work on that will combine arts and crafts with coding and basic electronics and simple circuits.
This course is taught by tutor Catherine Jones who is a practicing artist with extensive experience and strong links in the entertainment and creative industry. Using a combination of practical design demonstrations and 1-2-1 support you will receive guidance tailored to your individual projects and needs.
Do you need to bring anything?
Basic art materials, microprocessors, LED’s and laptops will be provided for the children to experiment during the session. To keep costs affordable, children will not be able to take away any electronics or processors but can take away their designs and handouts will be provided.
Children are welcome to bring along their own raspberry pi’s microbits and Arduino’s so that they can then take their projects home.
Are there any additional costs?
There are no additional costs. The tutor will suggest sources for parents to buy kit on request.
