What will you learn on this course?

On this short course, we will reveal the secrets of how to create digital effects seen in movies such as fire, rain, electricity and laser beams as well as how to create animated intros, logos and overlays for TV shows, films or even your personal YouTube channel from scratch.

You will be working with still images, film, text and graphics packages to create animated visuals and basic CGI scenes to be combined into a short video showcasing your explorations over the day. You will be shown the ropes of how to create and manipulate these effects and visuals on a technical level, but will be encouraged to explore at your own pace and within your own interests. The course will include the use of video cameras (when needed) and Apple Mac computers.

Some of the specific skills you will have the chance to explore on this course are:

Storyboarding and creative thinking
Introductory filming and video editing techniques
Use of creative packages such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
Use of film and effects packages such as Final Cut Pro and Apple Motion
Editing and animating to a beat.
Technical knowledge of movie and image file types.
Exporting your movie correctly, ready for all to see.

At the end of the course, you will have a movie file or set of clips evidencing your creative outcomes on the course. You will also have a better understanding of the work and processes that go into creating motion visuals, as well as a base to explore motion graphics in greater depth in future.
