A one day workshop teaching basic metalwork skills and how to make a small silver gift, a ring, or a pendant in a day.
Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for Adults aged 18+. It is open to all ability levels you don’t need previous experience.
The course is accessible for adults of all abilities who can participate in practical arts and craft activities. A learning support worker is provided and a parent or carer may assist the young person if additional support is required. Carers must book a complimentary ticket if attending a course to provide support. The room is wheelchair accessible.
Age ranges are set carefully to take into account key age developments, materials being used and course stimulus. It is very important that age ranges are not too large or across key stages and therefore need to be adhered to.
What will you learn on this course?
On this course you will learn the skills necessary to design and make your own small silver gift, ring or pendant in one day.
You will be taught a range of traditional jewellery making skills and techniques by making test pieces that may include:
You will then learn how to develop a design from paper to practice creating your own unique silver gift.
Our fully equipped studio has workbenches, soldering hearth, pickle bath, rolling mill, pendant motors and a variety of hand tools including piercing saws, files, hammers and punches which the tutor will teach you to use safely and correctly.
On completing the course you will have gained confidence in basic bench skills, developed your fine motor skills and hand eye coordination, and have a piece of jewellery you have designed and made to wear or to give to friends and family.
Do you need to bring anything?
All materials, tools and equipment are provided including a small piece of silver to make your gift.
