Be inspired by the jungle to create 3D sculptures of your favourite animals in this 1-day course. Learn all about clay sculpture and use imaginative ways to decorate your sculpture with coloured slips.

What will you learn on this course?

During this 1-day course children will learn how to make a 3D sculpture of their favourite jungle animals. They will explore different ceramic techniques such as hand slab building, coiling and pinching then learn to paint their creatures with coloured slips. From mischievous monkeys to prowling panthers, children will be encouraged to use their creativity to make their own unique ceramic piece inspired by the jungle.

The course is held in the pottery studio at MAC and provides a fun and creative environment which will encourage children’s creativity and discovery. The course provides an exciting introduction to ceramics where children get to explore the medium of clay with a group of like-minded people.

Children will learn different hand-building techniques such as coiling, slab building and sculpting clay. They will then add decoration using a variety of techniques. Learners will be encouraged to review and refine their work to produce finished ceramic pieces that are unique.

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for children aged 6 to 11. It is open to all levels. Those with little or no experience of pottery will be shown demonstrations for the various techniques used and those with previous experience will be able to self-direct their work with guidance from the tutor.

All our staff are DBS checked.

The course is accessible for children with disabilities but you do need dexterity in your hands to work with clay. A Carer may assist. Carers must book a complimentary ticket if attending a course to provide support. The room is wheelchair accessible. Please contact us to discuss your specific needs.

Age ranges are set carefully to take into account key age developments, materials being used and course stimulus. It is very important that age ranges are not too large or across key stages and therefore need to be adhered to.

Do you need to bring anything?

You don’t need to bring anything. All materials and equipment is provided.

Are there any additional costs?

There are no additional costs. The course price includes all materials and firing of your work.
