Discover the world of Kathak dance on this beginners course taught by renowned Kathak dancer and choreographer Nahid Siddiqui with live musical accompaniment from Hassan Mohyeddin.

Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for adults 18+. It is open to beginners in the discipline of Kathak dance. You do not need any previous experience as full instruction is given.

The course is accessible for people with disabilities providing you are physically able to dance. A support worker or a carer may assist. Carers must book a complimentary ticket if attending a course to provide support. Please contact us to discuss your specific needs.

What will you learn on this course?
Kathak is a classical dance style from the north of India. The name “katha” comes from a Sanskrit word meaning “the art of storytelling.” In these classes work with one of the finest Kathak dancers and choreographers in the world.
Participants will learn the basics of Kathak including footwork, fast spins, rhythmic choreographies, and storytelling through mime, gesture and facial expressions. During the class you will learn the foundations of the dance through training and dance routines, while accompanied by an accomplished tabla player.

Do you need to bring anything?
Participants will need to bring a water based drink to every session and wear suitable clothing that allows free movement. You should bring a warmer top to put on after the session. Lessons are usually done bare footed.
