During these fun workshops children will learn how to make their own short animated film using the stop frame animation technique. Working in a small team the participants will learn about and try every process involved in creating an animation. They will start by writing a story and then break it down into a storyboard. The children will design and make their own characters and sets from coloured paper and other craft materials. Finally, using SAM animation software on laptop computers and mounted digital cameras they will take a series of still photographs that will become their animated film. To give their film a professional finish background music and recorded dialogue can be added.

In addition to learning how to make an animation, the participants will learn about team working, storytelling, listening skills and the use of specialist technology. The tutor will work closely with the groups demonstrating the different processes and supporting the children to realise their own ideas.

All children will receive a copy of the animation on CD to take home.
