Be inspired by the Jurassic and turn the creatures that walked the earth 200 million years ago into 3D sculptures or put their dino-faces onto pots in this 2-day camp. Learn all about hand building and coiling techniques to create and then decorate your historic creations.
Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for children aged 6 to 11. It is open to all levels. Those with little or no experience of pottery will be shown demonstrations for the various techniques used and those with previous experience will be able to self-direct their work with guidance from the tutor.
All our staff are DBS checked.
The course is accessible for children with disabilities but you do need dexterity in your hands to work with clay. A Carer may assist. Carers must book a complimentary ticket if attending a course to provide support. The room is wheelchair accessible Please contact us to discuss your specific needs.
Age ranges are set carefully to take into account key age developments, materials being used and course stimulus. It is very important that age ranges are not too large or across key stages and therefore need to be adhered to.
What will you learn on this course?
During this 2-day course children will learn how to make clay dino-pots, Jurassic sculptures or other dinosaur themed pottery. They will explore different ceramic techniques such as hand slab building, coiling and pinching then learn to paint their creatures with coloured slips in order to create a horned Triceratops, a long-neck Diplodocus or a spiky Stegosaurus out of clay.
The course is held in the pottery studio at mac and provides a fun and creative environment which will encourage children’s creativity and discovery. The course provides an exciting introduction to ceramics where children get to explore the medium of clay with a group of like-minded people.
Children will learn different hand-building techniques such as coiling, slab building and sculpting clay. They will then add decoration using a variety of glaze techniques. Learners will be encouraged to review and refine their work to produce finished ceramic pieces that are unique.
MAC CREATIVE CAMPs take place during school holidays, the camps run from between 2-5 days and offer intensive learning experiences across a variety of art forms. The last day of the camp may include a sharing event or performance for parents.
Our camps run from 10am to 3pm each day, with a 1-hour lunch break and children are fully supervised at all times by experienced DBS-checked staff.

You don’t need to bring anything. All materials and equipment is provided.
Are there any additional costs?
There are no additional costs. The course price includes all materials and firing of your work. Work is usually twice fired and is available for pick up 4 weeks following the course.
