Course Description:

Create your own exciting world inspired by the animated films showing at MAC this Easter, including the fantastical Japanese stories and the amazing characters of Studio Ghibli.

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for children aged 6 to 11 years. It is open to beginners, children who are doing drama for the first time as well as returners who have attended drama classes previously. Parents are not expected to accompany children on this course. All our staff are DBS checked.

Elements of this class are quite physically demanding. The course may be accessible for children with disabilities. The tutor has level 1 British Sign Language, we can provide a learning support worker and a parent or carer may assist their child if required. The room is wheelchair accessible. Please contact us to discuss your particular needs.

Age ranges are set carefully to take into account key age developments, materials being used and course stimulus. It is very important that age ranges are not too large or across key stages and therefore need to be adhered to.

What will you learn on this course?

Kids will take inspiration from the imaginative animated stories, far-off places and outlandish characters created by the world famous Studio Ghibli™ and other animated films. Over the course of the camp you will explore lots of fun approaches to improvisation, helping you to create a brand new tall tale!

During this camp, children will learn about drama through fun games and exercises that will introduce them to different performance skills.

The areas covered will include tableaux, acting, movement, voice and character. Participants will be encouraged to be creative and use their imagination as well as the works of Studio Ghibli to make stories and their own short scenes.

Games and play will be used to find interesting ways of using the body and creating characters. The students will then be encouraged to incorporate these into short scenes which they will work on in groups.

This course will also enable the children to develop their confidence, creativity, group work, speaking, listening and performance and presentation skills.

Do you need to bring anything?

Participants should bring bottled water or a water based drink. Children also need to bring their own lunch to eat on a supervised one-hour break.

Are there any additional costs?

There are no additional costs for this course.
