Sun 22 Apr, 10am – 11am | 12 wk Term £74 | Beginners/Improvers Level | Ages 3 - 5yrs

A class for young children to experience the first steps of classical and contemporary dance in a fun, energetic way.

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for children aged 3 - 4 years. It is open to beginners and improvers. The class will be adapted to suit the needs of the participants. For those with previous dance experience the technique will be made harder and beginners will be taught the basics and simplified routines.

The course may be accessible for children with disabilities as we can provide a learning support worker and all classes are planned to meet the specific needs of the group. A parent or carer may assist their child if required. Carers must book a complimentary ticket if attending a course to provide support. The room is wheelchair accessible. Please contact us to discuss your specific situation and needs.

Age ranges are set carefully to take into account key age developments, materials being used and course stimulus. It is very important that age ranges are not too large or across key stages and therefore need to be adhered to.

What will you learn on this course?

This weekly one-hour dance class will cover the early foundations of dance technique, working to develop coordination, musicality and creative expression. The class will allow children to experience the first steps of contemporary and classical dance technique whilst nurturing creative skills in a fun, energetic way. Your child will also develop their self-confidence, team working skills and improve their spatial and body awareness.

The class will include prop work such as dancing with scarves, beanbags, materials, musical shakers to help nurture and develop your child’s movement capacity. They will also learn about the creative devising process, understanding how to construct phrases of movement and simple routines.

At the end of the term all parents will be invited to class for a sharing performance to see what the children have been working on.

Do you need to bring anything?

Participants need to bring a water based drink to every session and wear suitable clothing that allows them to move freely such as tracksuit bottoms/leggings and a t-shirt/vest top with a warmer top to put on after the session. Children will dance in bare feet.

Are there any additional costs?

There are no additional costs for this course.
