Have you just got to dance? Join us for a fast paced class incorporating street, freestyle, jazz and contemporary styles to popular music.
Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for children aged 7 - 10 years (mature 6 year olds may be considered, please contact us to discuss with the tutor). It is open to beginners and improvers. The class will be adapted to suit the needs of the participants. For those with previous dance experience the technique will be made harder and beginners will be taught the basics and simplified routines.
Unfortunately this course is not suitable for children with disabilities.
Age ranges are set carefully to take into account key age developments, materials being used and course stimulus. It is very important that age ranges are not too large or across key stages and therefore need to be adhered to.
What will you learn on this course?
This is a weekly fast-paced 45min dance class teaching a fusion (mash up) of contemporary dance technique with freestyle, jazz and street dance. Dances are taught to a range of popular music. The class with develop a technical base whilst nurturing creative skills. Students will also build their self-confidence, team working skills and improve their spatial and body awareness.
The class may include some prop work such as dancing with hats or other objects. Participants will also learn about the creative devising process, understanding how to construct phrases of movement and simple routines.
At the end of the term parents will be invited to class for a sharing performance to see what the children have been working on.
Do you need to bring anything?
Participants need to bring a water based drink to every session and wear suitable clothing that allows them to move freely such as tracksuit bottoms/leggings and a t-shirt/vest top with a warmer top to put on after the session. Children will dance in bare feet.
Asthmatic children must bring their inhaler.

*We advise participants to keep the day and time of the course free for Half Term and the week following the end of term free for replacements sessions that may be required due to tutor illness or exceptional circumstances.
Our enhanced Safeguarding Policy recommends that we hold emergency contact details for all learning and participation activities (including courses), for children and young people under 18 years old and for supported or vulnerable adults. These are to be completed and signed by parents/carers except young people aged 16-18 and supported/vulnerable adults who are able to sign for themselves.
Completed forms must be handed in to our Sales and Information Team prior to the start of the course.
