Sampad and Birmingham Archives are teaming up for a unique Drama Summer School. Led by theatre makers Mathias Andre and Fateha Begum, we will make our own play about the people who came to Birmingham from the Caribbean, Africa, the Indian subcontinent and Ireland between 1945 and 1985. Our play will be inspired by some wonderful photographs of people taken during that time by a photographer called Ernest Dyche in his Balsall Heath studio.
Why did the people in the photographs come to Birmingham? What did they leave behind? What contribution did they make to our city? What challenges did they face? What do we want to celebrate about their lives? How has our city become the amazingly diverse place that it is today?
Suitable for children aged 7-11, Our Story, Our City: Drama Summer School will run daily from 10am-3pm at Midlands Arts Centre, Cannon Hill Park in the Performance Studio. Your ticket will be valid for the whole week.
There will be an informal performance for parents and carers at 2pm on Friday 20th August.
