Learn how to immortalize your of your favourite little fellas and make a pottery portrait of them. In this course you will learn hand building and coiling techniques, and imaginative ways to make your clay best friend look their best.
What will you learn on this course?
During the course students will learn how to make clay portraits of their pets or favourite animals.
You will explore different ceramic techniques such as hand slab building, coiling and pinching to form your animal portraits, then learn to paint them with coloured slips to bring your pet to life. There will be emphasis in this course on developing your observational skills and translating these into more personal representations of your pet portrait. You will be encouraged to experiment and explore different approaches that will help you to find your own artistic methods and style.
The course provides an exciting introduction to ceramics where you can explore the medium of clay with a group of like-minded people in a relaxed studio environment.
You will be working in MAC's fully equipped sculpture studio with buff, terracotta and crank clays. There may be the option to fire and glaze completed works.
Who is this course for?
This course is for adults aged 18+ years and is designed for all levels, beginners, improvers and advanced practitioners as our tutor will tailor the class to your skill level.
This course is perfect for students interested in natural forms and learning to sculpt them in clay.
The course may be accessible for people with disabilities. You do need dexterity in your hands to work with the clay and the tools. Students may bring their own carer or support worker. Carers must book a complimentary ticket if attending a course to provide support. The room is wheelchair accessible. Please contact us to discuss your specific needs.

You don’t need to bring anything. All materials and equipment is provided.
Are there any additional costs?
The course price includes all materials and firing of your work unless the particular pieces you wish to work on are oversized when an additional charge will be made. Please discuss with the tutor.
