What will you learn on this course?
On this course you will learn to play the piano in a style of your choosing from classical, folk and pop. Each lesson will include different elements such as finger exercises, musical scales and sight reading, learning and playing repertoire and often playing duets with the tutor. The content of lessons will vary depending on your goals e.g. whether you are working towards sitting a piano exam.
The tutor offers preparation for ABRSM examinations and students have excellent pass rates with good results. In additional to technical skills, aural training and music theory ABRSM are also provided.
All lessons are one-to-one and the teaching style is influenced by Russian traditional piano teaching and now also includes elements of the English style and approach to teaching. The tutor uses the complete ‘Alfred Basic Piano Library’ piano course which covers all levels and the ‘Bastien’ course books. The course books form a basis for teaching that is enhanced by the tutor’s own extensive experience.
Students can expect to learn to play piano pieces to performance standard and develop their musicianship and technical skills alongside an enjoyment in making music.
In order to progress students must be prepared to practice between lessons and need access to an instrument to do so.

“Very friendly enjoyable lessons”
“I took up the piano 40 years ago after I first wanted to as a child. The lessons I have had at mac have inspired me and I now enjoy practising regularly. After one term of playing I have bought a piano and intend to continue with the support of my teacher” Martina
“I feel the piano lessons taught by Mira are very organised and structured as I start playing the piano as soon as I arrive, and no time is wasted. Even though it’s half an hour I learn a lot and feel I have developed my skills whilst enjoying myself. Overall the lessons are very good and it has been a unique experience.” Zara Khan (14)
“I would like to commend Mira Yugai for her brilliant teaching method in the piano lessons I have taken under her tuition. She is patient, clear and efficient. As a beginner I’ve learned a lot and I thank her. I’m encouraged to keep learning under her.” P Marshall
“I have been a student of Mira the past 18 months and have found her an excellent piano teacher. She is accomplished in her own right and has passed on her passion and expertise in a patient and professional manner which has given me the enthusiasm and drive to continue in my piano/music studies. 5 stars awarded!” Philip Owen
“Mira is a very professional tutor. We are very happy with the progress our daughter has made so far.” Zarina Kibizora
“This is my second year of piano training with Mira Yugai. I know that I have seriously progressed my skills. The lessons are both instructive and interactive and I hope to continue with Mira in the future.” Ann Owen
“The piano lessons are very good and enjoyable for my 7 year old daughter Tanya. She thoroughly enjoys the lessons. The contents of the lessons are very good and the amount of homework given is about right as well. There is good progression towards the grade exams as well. Tanya is yet to move onto any grade exams. Overall I would recommend parents to put their children in piano lessons at mac.” Soumon Sinah
