Learn how to design and make your very own magical pottery theatre and puppets made from clay. Unleash your creativity while learning clay techniques. Make your stage and jungle characters inspired by the famous Jungle Book story.

What will you learn on this course?

During the course children will learn how to make 3D pottery characters and will be inspired by the story and characters in  ‘Jungle Book. They will explore different ceramic techniques such as hand slab building, coiling and pinching then learn to paint their creatures with coloured slips.

The course is held in the pottery studios at MAC and provides a fun and creative environment which will encourage children’s creativity and discovery. The course provides an exciting introduction to ceramics where children get to explore the medium of clay with a group of like-minded people.

Children will learn different hand-building techniques such as coiling, slab building and sculpting clay. They will then add decoration using a variety of glaze techniques. Learners will be encouraged to review and refine their work to produce finished ceramic pieces that are unique.

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for children aged 6 to 11. It is open to all levels. Those with little or no experience of pottery will be shown demonstrations for the various techniques used and those with previous experience will be able to self-direct their work with guidance from the tutor.

All our staff are DBS checked.

The course is accessible for children with disabilities but you do need dexterity in your hands to work with clay. A Carer may assist. Carers must book a complimentary ticket if attending a course to provide support. The room is wheelchair accessible Please contact us to discuss your specific needs.

Age ranges are set carefully to take into account key age developments, materials being used and course stimulus. It is very important that age ranges are not too large or across key stages and therefore need to be adhered to.

Do I need to bring anything?

Participants should bring bottled water or a water based drink and their own lunch to eat on a supervised one-hour break if you are not opting to purchase the optional Childcare Add-ons with or without food.

All course materials and equipment are provided.

MAC CREATIVE CAMPs take place during school holidays, the camps run from between 2-5 days and offer intensive learning experiences across a variety of art forms. The last day of the camp may include a sharing event or performance for parents. 

Our camps run from 10am to 3pm each day, with a 1-hour lunch break and children are fully supervised at all times by experienced DBS-checked staff.
