Charles Marlow may be a man-about-town down in London, but among the Midlands gentry he's a fish out of water. Shy, uptight, and tongue-tied, his first attempt to woo well-bred country girl Kate Hardcastle is a disaster. It doesn't help that Marlow is under the impression that her house is an inn and her father is an innkeeper (thanks to her mischievous stepbrother Tony). Undeterred and intrigued, Kate decides to play along and pretends to be a barmaid to see if she can overcome her suitor's awkwardness...
Oliver Goldsmith's joyous and boisterous comedy of mistaken identities, farcical mayhem and blossoming romance has been entertaining audiences for over 240 years. The Luke Players are delighted to be staging She Stoops to Conquer in this our 80th year of performing plays in Birmingham.
