EVENT UPDATE as of Fri 20 May
We have now been advised that The Abyssinians are having issues with their visas being processed and therefore are not able to travel from Jamaica for their tour.
As a result, tomorrow’s event (Saturday 21 May) has been cancelled.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause – this has been beyond the control of MAC and the event promoter.
If you’re happy for your tickets to be recredited to your MAC account, you don’t need to take any further action. However, if you would like a full refund, please email our Sales & Events team who can process that for you.
This specially choreographed Simmer Down Lounge programme brings together live music, DJ’s, Nyabinghi drummers, and sizzling food stalls to create a roots reggae party fiesta in MAC’s Outdoor Theatre.
The Abyssinians are regarded as the reggae band that captured the heart, soul and spirit of the roots reggae genre. The vocal trio’s heavenly harmonies, dark melodies, and Rastafarian themes, all delivered with a deep spiritual feeling, were instrumental in defining and refining the genre. The original line-up (reunited in 1998) will be performing with their full backing band their classic hits including ‘Satta Massa Gana’ and numbers from the Reunion album.
In addition, an array of local artists and stellar musicians will be included as part of the line-up, including The Niabhingi Drummers providing deeply spiritual ceremonial beats plus DJ’s and MCs who will keep you entertained throughout the evening.
Simmer Down Festival is one of UK’s biggest free reggae music and arts festival. This year, it will take place on Sunday 17July in Handsworth Park, Birmingham.
