Event Information

Develop your observational and technical skills in drawing still life compositions with confidence.  This course is an opportunity to explore and gain skills in still life drawing through drawing materials, drawing techniques and a variety of subject matter.

What will you learn on this course?

This is a structured course to still life drawing that will guide you step by step in using a range of drawing materials such as graphite pencils/sticks, charcoal pencils, pastel, coloured/water soluble pencils, pen and ink and collage.  You will gain skills in mark making, perspective/scale, shadow, tone and textures, and finally, you will add all the elements you have learnt to bring different still life compositions to life. You will work with a variety of intriguing subject matter.  These will include simple objects, geometric shapes, household subjects, metal, glass, stone, ceramic, plants and flowers, fabric and fruit.

Each week the tutor will set a specific project.  She will demonstrate techniques which will be supported with examples of artists’ work. Students will then undertake practical exercises to learn and apply the technique themselves with individual guidance and support from the tutor.  Each lesson is a continuation from the previous one. Step by step building skills and techniques which you will then translate into still life compositions.

On completing the course you can expect to have a range of drawings which demonstrate your understanding of drawing materials, technical skills in using them to then applying these skills into observational still life drawings.

This is a relaxed, calming course which allows you to explore techniques and skills which will give you the confidence to develop even further.
