What will you learn on this course?
This is a fun, practical introductory course which will explore shooting using Super 8mm film. With feature films now almost exclusively shot and distributed digitally, a few high profile filmmakers continue to support and shoot on photo-chemical celluloid film, including Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight, Interstellar) and Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction, The Hateful Eight). Film continues to be produced to meet the demand of both A-list directors and fine artists who are in love with it's unique qualities. Movie companies such as Kodak and Pinewood Studios are now investing in new equipment and lab facilities to meet this rising demand for celluloid filmmaking, and give a new generation of image makers the chance to explore it's unique aesthetic. Tutor Scott Johnston is a traditional filmmaker and visual artist, who continues to utilise celluloid film in his work. Scott will impart his experience through screening work and practical filming tips, then the group will plan, devise and shoot their own footage on colour Super 8mm footage with all materials and equipment provided. The film reels will then be sent to a photolab for processing.
