Inspired by the vibrant colours of India, this one day course will introduce you to several textile techniques including screen printing and batik where you will create a kaleidoscope of beautiful backgrounds to quilt and embellish with machine stitching.
Who is this course for?
This course is for adults aged 18+ years. It is open to beginners and improvers. It is suitable for people who are both completely new to textiles and those who wish to learn new approaches to design and develop their skills further.
The course may be accessible for people with disabilities who can participate in practical art and craft activities. Students can be accompanied by a carer or support worker. Carers must book a complimentary ticket if attending a course to provide support. The room is wheelchair accessible. Please contact us to discuss your specific situation and needs.
This course involves working at low tables and good dexterity is needed in your hands.
What will you learn on this course?
The course is delivered through a mix of demonstrations and practical exercises. Inspired by the vibrant colours of India work with several textile techniques including screen printing and batik to create a kaleidoscope of backgrounds to quilt and embellish with machine stitching.
This fabric base will be decorated with a train of elephants, or similar India inspired designs. The pieces made can be then transformed in to into a cylindrical vessel or a 'cuff ' for a glass vase, a cushion cover, book cover or a picture.
Participants will be able to build on existing or learn new skills.
Do you need to bring anything?
Please bring an A4 or larger ring bound sketchbook and/or plastic wallet to keep your samples in.
All other materials and equipment is provided.
Are there any additional costs?
You will need to provide the items listed above at your own expense. Ring bound scrapbook approx. £8.50.
