Design and print a design on fabric to be embellished in a Kantha style before using it to make a drawstring bag to take home.
Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for families. It is open to all ability levels and participants don’t need previous experience
The course is accessible all abilities and experiences levels. The course will involves some use of sewing machine. Participants who need one to one support will need to bring a Carer with them. Carers must book a complimentary ticket if attending a course to provide support. The room is wheelchair accessible.
What will you learn on this course?
During this course participants will:
- Learn the skills involved in lino, potato, scratch foam printing techniques and tool craft.
- Students will then draw from Kantha embroidery heritage, use simple running stitches and coloured threads to embellish these designs.
- Make a simple drawstring bag on the sewing machine.
Learn simple stitches such as Running Stitch and French Knot (and others more complicated if you wish to be challenged) and how to use change of colour, size and direction to effectively embellish your printed fabric.
Learn to use the sewing machine to sew a simple rectangular, drawstring bag.
Do you need to bring anything?
Plain white cotton and canvas is provided to print onto.
If you would like to print onto coloured (but plain) please supply this yourself. Please note that printing onto dark fabrics such as black or purple can be hard.
