Following phenomenal success in its birthplace of Bristol in 2011 and two London transfers, the Offie Award winning, Olivier-nominated Cinderella: A Fairytale comes to mac birmingham this Christmas.
Originally produced by Bristol-based Tobacco Factory Theatres and Travelling Light and suitable for children aged 6+, this phenomenally received production has a sterling creative team – including renowned director Sally Cookson, whose production of Jane Eyre transfers to the National Theatre this year, as well as Designer Katie Sykes, Musical Director Benji Bower and Dramaturg Adam Peck.
The two companies have a track record in creating Christmas theatre which delights all of the family and here bring you a touching, warm-hearted and beautiful version of one of the oldest, best-loved fairy tales of all time.
When Ella’s mother dies, she is brought up by her devoted and loving father who teaches her the names and calls of the woodland birds that surround their home. But when her father marries again, Ella’s peaceful life is turned upside down by a host of new and unpleasant relations. It appears her only allies are the feathered friends who roost in the trees, but they are no ordinary birds…
With their quirky visual style, crystal-clear storytelling, original live music and pitch-perfect ensemble acting, director Sally Cookson and team bring this classic tale startlingly and imaginatively to life.
This fresh new production of Cinderella sits in stark contrast with the somewhat passive Disney version; the heroine in this production is feisty, clever and resourceful. The talented team have put their unique stamp on a family favourite for many generations, drawing from some of the more original interpretations from throughout history.
