Players of People's Postcode Lottery offer free activities for pre-schoolers this December

As a grateful recipient of funding from the players of People’s Postcode Lottery, which this year has amounted to £250,000, mac is pleased to be selected as its Charity of the Week from 3-11 December 2016. The week will see mac’s younger visitors enjoy free creative activities with its professional artist tutors in a bid to further engage with local families and those who might not otherwise visit the centre on a regular basis.

With a focus on pre-school children, mac’s Peoples Postcode Lottery charity week will feature: Sing and Sign - suitable for babies and toddlers, it enables them to communicate without speech. Active toddlers can also enjoy Toddlers in Motion, a fun, energetic movement session, using rhythms of Africa and the Caribbean to hop, skip, jump, and build confidence. There will also be an interactive storytelling session of: We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and mac’s Christmas show: The Bear will take over its intimate hub space, turning it into an arctic inspired den for little ones to explore throughout the week and throughout the run of the show, which ends on 31 December.

mac’s relationship with Peoples Postcode Lottery is now three years old and enables the centre to offer increased free activities throughout the year, in addition to funding much needed creative activities for young people and families who face challenges. This includes music making, performance training and mentoring opportunities. This year in addition to the upcoming activity taking place, they also funded a free weekend of activity as part of Disabled Access Day in March. The day included a host of activities including, Tai Chi, cinema screenings, dance performances and arts and crafts for disabled visitors, their friends and families.

Deborah Kermode, mac Chief Executive and Artistic Director said: ‘We’re thankful for the continued funding from the players of Peoples Postcode Lottery. Their generous, unwavering support enables us to increase our reach with families, children and young people, who might not otherwise visit our centre. As well as giving us the opportunity to offer free activities at mac, it also allows us to venture into communities to work on the ground within the locality, in order to build trust and long-lasting relationships. This is all made possible by the players of Peoples Postcode lottery – thank you.’

mac’s People’s Postcode Lottery Charity Week takes place from Saturday 3 December until Sunday 11 December. The full programme can be seen here.
