mac attends People’s Postcode Lottery annual charity gala with HRH Prince Charles

mac Birmingham is delighted to have attended the 2017 People’s Postcode Lottery annual Charity Gala attended by HRH Prince Charles, where it was announced that £66.3 million was awarded to charities and good causes in 2016 - thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery. mac is one of 69 charities that benefited from this incredible funding in 2016 with £275,000 received in 2016 alone. Other West Midlands based charities, which also benefit from People’s Postcode Lottery funding include Riding for the Disabled based in Warwick and Whizz Kidz who have local branches in the region.

The news of the funding total was shared at the annual event, on Tuesday 24 January, at Prestonfield House in Edinburgh. The Charity Gala celebrated the phenomenal achievements of charities working across Great Britain and internationally that are supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

The event was also attended by Sir David Attenborough, broadcaster Dermot Murnaghan and TV presenter Fiona Philips. Entertainment on the night was provided by Mica Paris and Soul Nation.

The funding, raised by the players of People’s Postcode Lottery has enabled mac to offer free activities for children and families throughout the year, last year this included arts and craft workshops, free music performances and interactive storytelling. This year they will also help to fund free activities as part of the national Disabled Access Day, which takes place at mac on Saturday 11 March, across the venue.

Deborah Kermode, Chief Executive and Artistic Director at mac said: ‘It was wonderful to meet so many inspirational CEO’s running such brilliant charities, all being helped so generously by the players of People’s Postcode Lottery. The evening was an invaluable opportunity to discuss possible collaborations and ideas as well as hear the positive news regarding projects and activities across the globe. We’re so grateful for their continued support and commitment to arts and culture in Birmingham, which has helped us to provide ongoing free access to those who face barriers to involvement. This could not have happened without the support of the players – thank you.’

Clara Govier, Head of Charities at People’s Postcode Lottery, said: 'Our Gala is such a special time in People’s Postcode Lottery’s calendar where we come together and celebrate the incredible amount of money raised by our players and the fantastic work carried out by the supported charities as a result of the support. We continue to be overwhelmed by the incredible support of our players and thank them for their funding.'
