MAC will reopen on Mon 24 May 2021 - live theatre and cinema programme now on sale

Tue 4 May 2021

Dear Friends,

I am thrilled to confirm MAC will reopen to the public on Monday 24 May 2021.

When we reopen our doors, MAC will look a little different to when you last visited us. We have worked tirelessly behind-the-scenes to ensure the venue is COVID-19 safe and adheres to all Government regulations – it is super important to us that you feel comfortable and relaxed enjoying all our activities once again.

There will be new measures in place including reduced capacity, the use of mask wearing for visitors and staff, new entry/exit points and advance booking for our theatre events, cinema, courses and workshops.

Please read the Visitor Guidelines before you visit us here.

I am delighted to introduce you to our new café and restaurant, KILN, a fresh, contemporary space with an exciting menu and beautiful design with table service. This is a different approach to how we have welcomed visitors before, and I encourage you to book online to reserve a table as capacity will be limited for a while. Booking lines open on Monday 17 May – until then, read more information about KILN and see our gorgeous photographs.

The new artistic programme is now on sale – from joyful shows in our revamped Outdoor Theatre, to hand-picked cinema screenings, and our ever-popular creative courses. You can find out more about what's on and book your place here.

We are honoured to present three art exhibitions all by exceptional female artists when we reopen. ‘Women’s Work’ by celebrated painter Caroline Walker, and ‘Untitled’ by Birmingham artist Maxine Walker - which include photographs from the V&A’s collection, last seen in Birmingham in 1996, we are proud to welcome them home. Alongside these two shows, we present a group exhibition by UK Black Female Photographers (UKBFTOG) ‘We Are Here’, incredible images exploring Black womanhood, race and identity. It is not necessary to book in advance for the galleries – however we will keep reviewing this, so please check online or call us before visiting.

Due to limited capacity on-site we ask that you only visit MAC if you have a ticket for an event, are visiting the galleries, attending a course or have a reservation for KILN. Casual visitors may not be guaranteed entry.

It has been a very challenging 14 months for everyone, and I am relieved that we have made it through this horribly uncertain period. Please bear with us whilst we relearn how to use our building, with new facilities and staff.

We appreciate all the brilliant support you have shown us as friends, donors, funders and partners. We are extremely grateful. Without you, reopening this month would not have been possible.

MAC is back.

Stay safe, thank you.
