Behind the Appliqué Artwork Created by Female Sewers in Birmingham

Tue 28 June 2022

Thank you so much to the Radcliffe Trust for supporting the Community Tapestry project, which connected 9 women from across the West Midlands to collaborate on a new piece of appliqué artwork, alongside artists Adeela Suleman and Ranbir Kaur.

This project coincides with the upcoming exhibition from Karachi-based artist Adeela Suleman, The Allegory of War. Her work is known for the social and political commentary underlying her sculptures, which are created out of everyday objects.

This project created more than a piece of art; it cultivated a community of passionate sewers: "By coming together in this collective action of making, they're sharing stories and skills that are woven into the fabric of the work." - Jenine McGaughran; Curator
