Apply for Chair of MAC's Trading Board

We are seeking a Chair for MAC Trading, this is an opportunity to be a director of MAC’s well-established Trading subsidiary and is a critical role for the organisation, acting as a key link between the Directors of the Trading Board and Trustees of the Charity.

MAC Trading

Since 1962, MAC has grown to be one of the UK’s busiest and most diverse arts centres, with 1 million visits every year. Our priority in the forthcoming years is to rebuild vital sources of earned income and boost visitor appeal that fuels our organisation.

MAC Trading exists to provide commercial services to visitors of MAC, to complement the arts activities, bring revenue to MAC to support its core work and offer excellent visitor experience. MAC’s Trading Board oversees catering including KILN café, bars, conferencing, room hire and retail – all operated by Midlands Arts Centre Trading Ltd, a company limited by guarantee.

Our volunteer Trading Board Members are integral to MAC’s long term success. They use their expertise and wider external experience to provide sound strategic counsel, constructive challenge and support to the management team, ensuring we meet regulatory requirements and remain accountable to all our stakeholders.

In 2022-23 MAC Trading contributed £551k to the Charity through gift aid and management charges and plays a vital role in MAC’s earned income strategy.

Equality at MAC

We are committed to expanding the diversity of our Board and are taking an inclusive approach to recruitment to ensure that this is the case. We are keen to receive applications from groups who are currently underrepresented across the sector, including members of the Global Majority, d/Deaf and disabled applicants and individuals from lower socio-economic backgrounds.

If you’re interested in this opportunity but are unsure whether your employment status or working pattern, your access needs, your caring responsibilities or any other factor might prevent you from becoming a Director, we’d urge you to get in touch for a chat about how we might be able to help.
