Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) is seeking a new Chair of its Trading Board. 

Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) is inviting applications for an experienced leader to become Chair of its Trading Board, playing a key role in shaping the future of the organisation’s commercial activity and its contribution to MAC’s charitable mission.

This is an exciting opportunity to join MAC at an important stage in its development. The Chair of the Trading Board provides strategic leadership and governance oversight for Midlands Arts Centre Trading Ltd (MAC Trading), ensuring that commercial activities generate sustainable income, enhance visitor experience and support the long-term success of the charity.

As the principal link between the Trading Board and Charity Board, the Chair will play a vital role in ensuring strong alignment between commercial performance, organisational values and MAC’s wider strategic priorities. 

We are keen to hear from individuals with experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Board-level leadership as a Chair, Trustee, Non-Executive Director, Company Director or equivalent senior leader
• Governance, accountability and board effectiveness within complex organisations
• Financial oversight, strategic planning and risk management
• Operating within group structures, charities, subsidiaries or organisations with multiple stakeholder relationships
• Commercial leadership, ideally within hospitality, retail, leisure, culture or other customer-focused environments
• Building effective partnerships and relationships across executive teams, boards and wider stakeholders

About MAC

First opened in 1962, Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) is a pioneering arts centre and charity with a mission to make art an important part of people’s lives. Set in the magnificent surroundings of Cannon Hill Park, MAC is a contemporary, multi-artform venue offering opportunities to see, do and make art. 

MAC has an annual turnover of approximately £5m. Around 62% of our income is earned through our own arts and trading activity, with the remaining income coming from grants and donations from major stakeholders including Arts Council England and Postcode Lottery (Postcode Culture Trust).
