Work Experience – School Pupils in Years 10, 11 and 12
Midlands Arts Centre (MAC), offer one-week work experience placements for school pupils in Years 10, 11 or 12 (aged 15 -18) during the summer.
Applications will open on Mon 1 January 2025.
Applications will close for Summer 2026 on Fri 30 January 2026.
We will be in touch by Fri 27 February 2026, regarding if an application has been shortlisted. Interview dates for shortlisted students will take place in March. Please note that due to the high volume of applications received, we are unable to accommodate all work experience requests and we have recommended that all that apply and interview for a placement have another option in place if they are unsuccessful.
Information regarding the placements that we offered in Summer 2026 are listed below.
Placements
Administration Assistant
You will be assisting the coordinators during your placement in the Administration and Human Resources departments. Duties could include assisting with the collection and dispersal of post, helping with various spreadsheets and other documents, assisting with stationary ordering, filing and archiving.
Placements in this department can be offered in May, June or July.
Visual Arts Administration Assistant
You will be assisting the curator in the visual arts department. Duties could include attending meetings, helping with various spreadsheets and other documents, assisting with filing and archiving.
Customer Service Assistant - Customer Services
You will be assisting the Customer Service Assistants in the Customer Services department during your placement. Duties in the Customer Services department could include shadowing a gallery invigilator, a theatre or cinema usher, an events usher, a learning support worker or helping with general duties.
Customer Service Assistant - Sales and Events
You will be assisting the Customer Service Assistants in the Customer Services department and the Catering department during your placement. Duties in the Sales and Events department could include shadowing a shift leader, assisting with franking, supporting our Welcome Desk staff or helping with the retail shop.
Learning and Participation Programming Assistant
You will be assisting our Learning and Participation department during your placement and duties could include assisting with course coordination, proof reading and editing course descriptions..
Visual Arts Technical Assistant (Learning and Participation)
You will be assisting the Visual Arts Technicians during your placement supporting the delivery of the Learning and Participation programme and duties could include (but not limited to) helping with the set-up for ceramics classes, textiles classes, jewellery classes and painting and drawing classes.
Technical Assistant (18 year olds only)
You will be assisting the Technicians during your placement, duties could include (but not limited to) Setting up microphones, rigging of theatre lights and the general housekeeping of the performance’s spaces for the performances, conferences and events at MAC.
