Work Experience – School Pupils in Years 10, 11 & 12
Midlands Arts Centre (MAC), offer one-week work experience placements for school pupils in Years 10,11 or 12 (aged 15,16,17) during the summer term 2024.
Applications close at 11.45pm on Wednesday 31 January 2024.
Please note that due to the volume of applications received, we are unable to accommodate all work experience requests and it is recommended that all that apply for a placement have another option in place if they are unsuccessful. Applications will be reviewed in February 2024 for shortlisting, with interviews for short listed students taking place in late February and early March.

Administration Assistant
You will be assisting the Administrators during your placement in the Administration and Human Resources departments. Duties could include assisting with the collection and dispersal of post, helping with various spreadsheets and other documents, assisting with stationary ordering, filing and archiving.
Dates for work experience in this role are only available between Mon 8 April 2024 until the week starting Mon 8 July 2024 (excluding week commencing Mon 24 June 2024).
Customer Service Assistant - Catering
You will be assisting the Customer Service Assistants in the Catering and the Catering department during your placement. Duties in the Catering department could include helping with the service in MAC’s restaurant – Kiln and shadowing the set-up of catering for events and conferences. You may also help out in one of our other departments with customer service assistants.
Dates for work experience in this role are only available in April, July & August 2024.
Customer Service Assistant - Customer Services department
You will be assisting the Customer Service Assistants in the Customer Services department. Duties in the Customer Services department could include shadowing a gallery invigilator, a theatre or cinema usher, an events usher, a learning support worker or helping with general duties. You may also help out in one of our other departments with customer service assistants.
Dates for work experience in this role are only available in March, April, May, the last week of June, July & August 2024.
Customer Service Assistant - Sales & Events department
You will be assisting the Customer Service Assistants in the Sales & Events department during your placement who are based in the welcome desk. Duties in the Sales & Events department could include helping with post, shadowing the welcome desk and team leaders or helping with the retail shop. You may also help out in one of our other departments with customer service assistants.
Dates for work experience in this role are only available in March, June & August 2024.
Marketing Assistant
You will be assisting the Marketing Campaign Officers during your placement and duties could include assisting with print archiving and distribution in the building, content creation for social media and emailing campaigns, planning and reporting, as well as helping with other documents to track our offline and online marketing campaigns.
Dates for work experience in this role are only available in April, June & July 2024.
Performing Arts Programming Assistant
You will be assisting our Performing Arts Producer during your placement in the Arts Department. Your duties may include; assisting with administration of future performances, meeting visiting performers and companies who will produce a range of work including theatre, music, comedy, contemporary dance and children’s theatre. In addition you may be shadowing the Performing Arts Producer in meetings with internal teams/colleagues to understand how the teams work together as well as visiting producers, companies and festivals. You may also be invited to attend certain shows & events.
Dates for work experience in this role are only available between May, June & July 2024.
Visual Arts Technical Assistant (Learning & Participation)
You will be assisting the Visual Arts Technicians during your placement supporting the delivery of the Learning & Participation programme and duties could include (but not limited to) helping with the set-up for ceramics classes, textiles classes, jewellery classes and painting and drawing classes.
Dates for work experience in this role are weeks commencing Mon 24 June 2024 and Mon 1 July 2024.
MAC Makes Music Assistant
You will be assisting the MAC Makes Music team planning and delivery exciting community music initiatives. Your role may include; attending music sessions, helping to plan future sessions, meeting music leaders, young musicians and partner arts organisations, helping to set up sessions in the recording studio and music rooms and shadowing the MAC Makes Music producer in meetings with internal and external colleagues.
Dates for work experience in this role are May, June and July 2024.
