Work Experience – School Pupils in Years 10, 11 and 12
Midlands Arts Centre (MAC), offer one-week work experience placements for school pupils in Years 10, 11 or 12 (aged 15, 16, 17) during the summer.
Applications will close for this on Fri 31 January 2024 at midnight. Late applications will not be accepted.
We will be in touch by Fri 28 February 2025, regarding if an application has been shortlisted. Interview dates for shortlisted students will take place in late February and early March.
Please note that due to the high volume of applications received, we are unable to accommodate all work experience requests and we have recommended that all that apply for a placement have another option in place if they are unsuccessful.

Placements
Administration Assistant
You will be assisting the coordinators during your placement in the Administration and Human Resources departments. Duties could include assisting with the collection and dispersal of post, helping with various spreadsheets and other documents, assisting with stationary ordering, filing and archiving.
Placements in this department can be offered in May, June or July.
Visual Arts Administration Assistant
You will be assisting the curator in the visual arts department. Duties could include attending meetings, helping with various spreadsheets and other documents, assisting with filing and archiving.
Placements in this department can be offered in April, May, June, July or August.
Customer Service Assistant - Customer Services
You will be assisting the Customer Service Assistants in the Customer Services department during your placement. Duties in the Customer Services department could include shadowing a gallery invigilator, a theatre or cinema usher, an events usher, a learning support worker or helping with general duties.
Placements in this department can be offered in April, May, July and August.
Customer Service Assistant - Sales and Events
You will be assisting the Customer Service Assistants in the Customer Services department and the Catering department during your placement. Duties in the Sales and Events department could include shadowing a shift leader, assisting with franking, supporting our Welcome Desk staff or helping with the retail shop.
Placements for this department will be in August.
Learning and Participation Programming Assistant
You will be assisting our Learning and Participation department during your placement and duties could include assisting with course coordination, proof reading and editing course descriptions.
The Learning & Participation department are able to offer placements in the weeks commencing 5t May, 12 May, 19 May, 7 July, 14 July and 21 July 2025.
Visual Arts Technical Assistant (Learning and Participation)
You will be assisting the Visual Arts Technicians during your placement supporting the delivery of the Learning and Participation programme and duties could include (but not limited to) helping with the set-up for ceramics classes, textiles classes, jewellery classes and painting and drawing classes.
Dates for work experience in this role are the weeks commencing 7 and 14 July.
Technical Assistant (18 year olds only)
You will be assisting the Technicians during your placement, duties could include (but not limited to) Setting up microphones, rigging of theatre lights and the general housekeeping of the performance’s spaces for the performances, conferences and events at MAC.
